On (Literal) Self-Reflection
Dear Readers,
I just got new headshots taken. Do you like looking a lot at your own face? It’s not always my favorite thing, though I don’t always mind it.
It feels like I should immediately apologize for saying that I don’t always mind it, I know! Such is the life of growing up a girl in This American Culture which mainly teaches us that our faces are never good enough and if you disagree you’re wrong or dangerously vain or delulu or like a combo. But, like, to not hate your face is not to suggest anything beyond that. I am allowed to just look at a photo and not be like “ew”.
(I had to pore over 200+ images of myself to narrow it down to new headshots, and I will say, sometimes I did be like “ew”. Sometimes, I assume, we all be like “ew”.)
Anyway, what I hope for you is that you don’t mind your face at least sometimes. Or at least that, often, you don’t have to be like “ew”.
I am finishing a draft of Out in Hollywood #3 right now, and am excited that soon I’ll be able to share more with you about it! I hope you like it very much. (Since I’m still editing, right now I hope I like it very much too.)
I have some fun events coming up this summer and fall, and I’ll share more of those with you soon too. Author life is often geared around “soon I can share this with you” and “soon I can announce this” and also “soon I hope to be finished with this draft” and “soon I hope to immediately bounce back into my new project” and soon soon soon. My dayjob life is also about the future, planning marketing campaigns for films in the future. These two careers can really make me so rarely in the calendar month of when I am actually living. This can screw with your brain! I try very hard to live in the calendar month of the calendar month I am in, for better or worse. Usually it works.
xoxoAmy
At Her Service
Have you yet read it? If not, it’s a great time to do so!
"Although At Her Service is technically a rom-com, I was most drawn to its depiction of a young lesbian not just looking for love but also for friends and direction and an authentic place to grow within a town and an industry known for its superficiality."
—Autostraddle
"Spalding’s wonderfully messy characters are easy to cheer on, and the romance is sexy and satisfying. Fun and flirty but still grounded in reality, this is sure to delight."
—Library Journal
"At Her Service is an ingenious millennial coming-of-age story about trying to find yourself in the age of apps and a culture of grind. Highly relatable, laugh-out-loud funny, and full of hot-bartender sapphic swoon, Amy Spalding joyfully reminds us that growing up can happen at any age and that we're all works in progress."
—Alison Cochrun, author of Kiss Her Once for Me and The Charm Offensive
High School Musical 2 is the greatest achieving of the trilogy.
Love your face!!
Author photos are very hard if you're in one of those moods, on the other hand very fun when you love the results - as I do yours!
