Dear Readers,

I have something in common with my new rice cooker

Last week I was like, WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME THAT I CAN’T FOCUS ON MY CREATIVE WORK OR ALSO NOT WANT TO CRY ABOUT EVERYTHING and then I was like I mean maybe it’s just living through current times in America 2025???

I want to be clear that it is not new for me to struggle with creative work (particularly in early stages), and it’s definitely not new to want to cry about everything (est. 1977). It’s where this gets so tough because WHO EVEN KNOWS what’s going on. The news is not good, to put it mildly. I am 47 and, you know, systems are going haywire. And also my brain was never built to just have a good frictionless time, really.

I officially was diagnosed with ADHD in 2021.
