Like a lot is going on!
Dear Readers,
Happy December. What a way to close out a weird-ass stressful year! I don’t know! I keep chugging along, somehow. And despite these honestly kinda precedented times I suppose I do have some fun things I wanted to remind you of/share with you/whatever with you.
I’M TEACHING AGAIN!
First up, I’ll be teaching my Romance Writing class through Vroman’s Bookstore again, starting in January! The class always sells out, so if you’re interested, get on this! The course is built around structure and outline, but I promise I make it a super loose flexible format so even if you think you hate outlines you probably won’t hate this!
We also cover so many more topics — character, dialogue, sex scenes, and more. I genuinely love teaching this class, and I get excited every time it starts again. You will leave with a bunch of resources and a finished outline! You’ll also get opportunities to get notes from me on different scenes as well as an optional peer critique which is always wildly constructive and encouraging.
I will also say that this is a very GENTLE class. If you want to show up every week but don’t want to turn in pages, or share anything aloud, or anything else that makes you feel too weird and vulnerable, I am not going to make you! I love when people participate, but I also love that sometimes a writing class needs to be a super safe space to pull in ideas and knowledge, and then take those super internally and let them sit there for awhile!
(Don’t worry; it’s an Amy Spalding class, loudmouths will be appreciated as well OBVIOUSLY!)
So, anyway, if you’re in Los Angeles, join me!
(Folks always ask me if I will teach a virtual version of this class, and the truth is that I’m open to it, but am not sure if I’d have enough interest. So if you are located somewhere else, please email or message me and let me know if you’re interested. I have a number of participants in my head that would be enough to make it worth all your whiles, so if I hear from enough people I’ll definitely do this.)
PERSONALIZED BOOKS
I am teaming up with Los Angeles indie bookstore Chevalier’s to offer personalized signed books for your holiday gifting (INCLUDING GIFTING TO YOURSELF OF COURSE)! You can order these to be sent ANYWHERE, and if you’re local you can also just pick them up! EASY BREEZY BEAUTIFUL.
SIGNED BOOKPLATES
As I do every holiday season, if you have purchased a new copy of one of my books (ebooks and pre-orders for On Her Terms count!) via ANY indie or chain this holiday season (like, November-ish onward), reply to this email with proof of purchase or forward it to amyspaldingwrites@gmail.com and I will send you one signed book plate per book as well as probably an extra sticker, bookmark, etc. Swag!
PREORDERS
There is nothing new about me telling you to preorder On Her Terms! But I am doing it anyway because preorders super help authors! The coolest way to do it is via my local-est indie Skylight Books, because I have teamed up with them to offer an exclusive sticker sheet of the pets of On Her Terms.* But, really, do it anywhere! It’s all good with me.
xoxoAmy
*Yeah obviously I have thought about Steve the invisible cat and Dr. Cristina Yang the Border Collie and ⬛️⬛️⬛️⬛️⬛️ the ⬛️⬛️⬛️⬛️⬛️⬛️ ⬛️⬛️⬛️ [Out in Hollywood #4 redacted]. Let’s assume in a year there will be more stickers of more pets as I wrap up the series? Feels like I gotta do it, right?
