Not to Play Favorites
Dear Readers,
There are so many great book festivals, sure. But the LA Times Festival of Books remains my favorite. My absolute favorite! I always see a bunch of friends, I always hear words that inspire me, I always meet amazing readers who remind me of that connection between words and the people reading them that we don’t always get a chance to hear about when we’re typing frantically into Microsoft Word. Real people! In person! Green room sandwiches! Random famous people! I love LATFOB and am grateful every single year that I get to be a part of it.
(If you are another festival, don’t feel sad, other festivals are great! I genuinely love festivals! I am not an author who wants to sit home with her MacBook. I am an author who wants to go talk to people in public and eat snacks and moderate a panel! INVITE ME is what I’m saying!)
SPEAKING OF FESTIVALS…
I am thrilled I can announce that I’ll be at the Columbus Book Festival again this year! I had such a blast in Ohio last year and am THRILLED to go back! This year I am getting some Skyline Chili or I will throw a fit!!
xoxoAmy

Listening To
I know I’ve talked about You Must Remember This already but I’m back to listening to the Erotic ‘90s episodes and just enjoying myself so much. There is something about listening to Karina Longworth talk where I feel so safe knowing that the POV of women is present in discussions of film and film history. This the kind of thing we should be able to take for granted but absolutely cannot, and I feel so grateful for this podcast and the meticulous research and work Longworth takes on to produce it.
Eating
I have gotten super into Trader Joe’s Guava Passion Fruit yogurt.
Cooking
It’s chilly again in LA (??) but any time it’s chilly I think about how obsessed I am with this coconut curry lentil stew and make a big batch. I also hate summer so why am I complaining? Actually, I’m not complaining. I just find the weather odd. If anyone had asked me “how will climate change affect Los Angeles” there is no part of me that would have brought up the words “DAMP” and “weirdly chilly?” Anyway, a lot of recipes at the What to Cook Substack are paywalled, but not this one! (And the subscription is more than worth it!)
Reading
It took me awhile to get through Naomi Klein’s Doppelganger (it’s dense! I’m busy!) but it’s such a smart and nuanced look at our current culture.
meow
I thought that was Owen Wilson's book until I read your caption that it was Ed Begley
