Liking Things without Worrying
Dear Readers,
I talked before in this newsletter in my post about Stop Making Sense that I really want to love things like certain bands and film in general, but throughout my life a lot of men have been like OH HEY LITTLE LADY I SEE YOU’RE HAVING AN OPINION ABOUT CINEMA WOULD YOU LIKE HELP IN HAVING THE CORRECT OPINION ACTUALLY like Clippie wearing a fedora and an ironic T-shirt, and even though I have rarely used Clippie’s help composing a business letter, I’ve found it hard to get away from this one’s dominance in certain areas.
Ever since Vidiots opened in my neighborhood, though, I’ve just been seeing a ton of movies, and the great thing is that MOVIES ARE GREAT and no one can decide for me what I’m seeing or can’t see and I know if you know me at all you probably think “wow Amy all you do is never shut up about stuff you like it doesn’t seem like this is holding you back in some way” but lemme tell you, that cultural stuff goes deep. It’s been so wonderful just seeing what I want and seeing what friends recommend and not feeling policed by anyone at all.
Anyway I hope you’re all listening to/watching/reading whatever you want to! That is what stuff is for!
xoxoAmy
Consumption
Baking/Eating
Making homemade granola is less like baking and more like stirring and toasting. Anyway, I am obsessed with Food 52’s Olive Oil & Maple Granola.
Cleaning Thyself
I would never survive in the wild without a Tide To Go pen. (My definition of “the wild” might vary from yours.)
De-Reddening
I have rosacea and also very pale skin that shows any sun/acne/whatever, and I’d never found a CC cream that didn’t just make me look like Gen X Elphaba. But Erborian’s CC Red Correct totally works for me and means I can wear lighter foundation and often no additional concealer at all.
Protecting
Speaking of my annoying pale flushed skin, Cosrx’s Aloe Soothing Sun Cream is my favorite facial moisturizer!
At Her Service
Have you yet read it? It’s a great time to do so!
"Although At Her Service is technically a rom-com, I was most drawn to its depiction of a young lesbian not just looking for love but also for friends and direction and an authentic place to grow within a town and an industry known for its superficiality."
—Autostraddle
"Spalding’s wonderfully messy characters are easy to cheer on, and the romance is sexy and satisfying. Fun and flirty but still grounded in reality, this is sure to delight."
—Library Journal
"At Her Service is an ingenious millennial coming-of-age story about trying to find yourself in the age of apps and a culture of grind. Highly relatable, laugh-out-loud funny, and full of hot-bartender sapphic swoon, Amy Spalding joyfully reminds us that growing up can happen at any age and that we're all works in progress."
—Alison Cochrun, author of Kiss Her Once for Me and The Charm Offensive
I heard that Clippie is dead but I did not verify this. No body/no crime.
No body/no crime LOVE the TS reference! Glad you’re being unapologetically you!
