In YOUR Spotlight
Dear Readers,
I had a truly wonderful time on book tour last week. I loved meeting some of you, seeing friends, seeing family, seeing some of my very favorite bookstores, old and new. I am blown away by the love people have for the Out in Hollywood series, by how many readers had somehow already finished reading In Her Spotlight, and how much queer joy and community we’re all finding with each other even in the midst of pretty dark times.
I love traveling and seeing people and signing books and also I really love coming home to 1) my temperature-regulating mattress pad, 2) my humidifier, and 3) my bidet.
I wanted to share some interviews about writing, In Her Spotlight, the Out in Hollywood series, and more!
Autostraddle Interview: How Amy Spalding Built a Four-Book Sapphic Romance Universe
Drinks with Broads Interview: Amy Spalding Discusses Writing Queer Joy, Researching Her New Book, and Grey’s Anatomy
Slow Dopamine Interview: Another delightful conversation with Amy Spalding about In Her Spotlight and the thorough research she did to accurately depict the world of theater

I wanted to share some photos from book tour, and unfortunately this is about the best way I can lay them out without cropping them weirdly! I hope you like to scroll!!!

Look, if you haven’t yet read In Her Spotlight this one is tough to explain. Heather thought it was weird that there’s an anecdote in the book about a video interview Rebecca did with Broadway World in which she mentions that one night she got lost in Queens (where Heather lives!) and ran into a pack of raccoons. (I really must clarify this is a small moment in the book, though spoiler alert it does get a callback.) But when Heather googled raccoons and Queens, she learned they are practically an unofficial mascot, so she got me this print of a raccoon wearing an I ❤️ Astoria hat. I explained I actually exaggerated a story my friend Adam — who happened to be sitting in the front row — told me about the time he walked home from the airport and saw a raccoon. Adam, I realized, had not read the draft of the book that included this story, so he found out at the event that this had somehow weirdly gotten into the book. ANYWAY. I love this print so much, I love my friends, I love the magic of life AND RACCOONS! (I also like all of this because for research I talked to someone who’d been in Guardians 3, a movie I cannot see because I know there is raccoon torture in it!!! It feels good to honor raccoons!!)
