Now & Forever
Dear Readers,
Awhile back I wrote about finding one of my eBay white whales, the Dita Sunspot glasses in tortoiseshell (technically amber maple, tipping my hat to the writers who name colors for brands):
I do obviously have other eBay saved searches, but also I have things that aren’t really saved search material, it’s more like you need to go in there and dig around. (I have other saved searches that I mostly ignore because like sure I could technically buy this whenever it’s listed but it’s never a price I like so it’s sort of background noise by now.)
One of the items I’d never set up a search for but occasionally searched for was a cast jacket for the musical Cats. I’ve already made it clear that I have loved Cats long before The Jellicle Ball (though to be clear I love The Jellicle Ball).
The original Cats logo is iconic. Also I think the jacket got burned into my head because Amy Pietz wore one on most episodes of Caroline in the City, though I could not find an image to prove this to you. The closest I came was this birthday wish (?) to her where you can sort of see the Cats title treatment in the background in an unusual shade of green:
I think this might be the jacket from the front:
Anyway I don’t actually have to show you these sad images because some man who had NO IDEA what he was in possession of put two Cats jackets in my size (light and heavier weights) up on eBay with little fanfare, and I made a deal with him and purchased them both for $90 total. I have never been so excited a man didn’t know something!!!
For the record, I was already wearing those leopard pants when the jackets arrived in the mail.
(If you’re curious who these jackets belonged to, they are both embroidered Chuck on the front. Thank you for your service, Chuck.)
There are some amazing cast jackets available NOW on eBay. I love a bomber jacket or letterman-style jacket so if all these were priced like Chuck’s jackets I would probably have to grab even more. Here’s a selection I found today:
I don’t like Godspell very much (sorry but I think there’s only so much room in my heart for religious musicals and it’s always gonna be JCS for me and also I feel like seeing The Joke: The Musical* BEFORE Godspell did something to me) but this is a great jacket!! I love a letterman-style jacket, I love red and white, and the logo placement/size is perfect.
I’m gonna be honest that I had to google Tony Walton, sorry to this man (if you are similarly Tony Walton-ignorant, he was a British costume designer), and also I’m not sure about this logo size/placement or the choice of black and not one of the brighter colors in the logo BUT this does benefit charity apparently.
NOW WE ARE TALKING. I love the color, I love the fit, I love the logo, and I love that someone named “Don” owned it! This is a huge win. If Dreamgirls was a favorite of mine it would be hard not Best Offer-ing this one; since it’s not, one of you who is telling me you’re not going should get it.
I literally hadn’t thought about The Who’s Tommy in ages but it keeps popping up in various places lately? I swear to god I remember the original cast jackets having yellow sleeves which my teen ‘90s self thought was fucking cool as hell, but this one is OKish. Why do the sleeves look disconcertingly SHINY? Why did the crew have to be LABELED, like, isn’t it cooler if you wonder if someone is IN the show or LIGHTING the show or like MOVING EQUIPMENT AROUND and everyone is equal?? To be clear if this was cheap I would probably buy it. It also benefits charity!!!!
OK WTF why did they make a West Side Story trench coat? I can’t even really call this a trench coat, it’s like a jacket grew for too long? Also why does it look wet already, is that so the appearance barely alters when it rains? When you’re a Jet you’re a Jet all the way I guess!!!! This jacket does NOT benefit charity.
If any of you get a cast jacket you are now legally required to tell me.
xoxoAmy

Books
You probably rarely even scroll down this far. You’re like, yeah yeah, In Her Spotlight, I’ve heard of it.
STILL! It is one of my top books I’ve ever written (I know this is like having a favorite child but I’ll just say that some people have favorite children) and I want you to read it!
My favorites and yours, Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan, called it “a vibrant, funny, sweepingly romantic tribute to the importance of living life unapologetically your way” and I would NEVER argue with them!!!
Honestly I think the whole series is PRETTY GREAT so please check one out! OR ALL! BUY IN BULK!

1. Thank you for the Annie Spadaro representation, v. important to our people.
2. Now I have “let’s hear it for the pinball tour, it’s been an incredible success” stuck in my head.
Welp, now adding this amazing jacket idea to my own infrequent eBay searches, I thank for your service!
My related searches include twice a year searching for a Gap olive thin-wale corduroy shirt with silver metal buttons, likely from the early 90s because I got mine from a Goodwill in 1998; I long since donated mine which was a XS and I am now firmly a L; I have an okay ebayed replica from Lands End now, but 1) the buttons are wrong and 2) it’s a little stiff instead of drapey. Sigh, my holy grail shirt search continues.
